Material description
Material 1.3917 (Alloy 42) is an iron-nickel alloy with a nickel content of around 42% and excellent thermal expansion properties. 1.3917 offers a low coefficient of thermal expansion up to 300°C, which can be modified and optimised at the customer’s request through changes to the chemical composition or variations in the heat treatment and different degrees of deformation.
An overview of the properties of 1.3917:
- Low coefficient of thermal expansion
- Dimensional stability
Applications
- Electrical engineering and medical technology (e.g. X-ray tubes and thermostatic bimetals)
- Cryogenics (e.g. liquid gas tanks and supply lines)
- Automotive industry (e.g. diesel injection systems, airbag technology, spark plugs)
- Melt alloys for soft and tempered glass and ceramics
- Semiconductor technology (e.g. chip carriers)
- Machines and components (e.g. dilatometers and lasers)
