Material description
1.4539 is an austenitic, rust-resistant stainless steel. Thanks to the high alloy contents of chromium and nickel along with the alloying elements molybdenum and copper, 904L has excellent corrosion resistance, even in seawater. This resistance also extends to reduced organic and inorganic acids with a medium degree of aggressiveness such as sulphuric or phosphoric acid and to chloride-containing media.
An overview of the properties of 1.4539:
- Excellent corrosion resistance (in seawater, organic and inorganic acids, chloride-containing media)
- Excellent resistance to pitting, stress corrosion cracking and intergranular corrosion
Applications
- Flue gas scrubbers and desulphurisation systems
- Chimney construction
- Parts for cooling circuits operated with seawater or brackish water
- Pulp and paper industry
- Swimming pool technology
- Fertiliser industry
- Shipbuilding (e.g. sports boats)
- Jewellery (e.g. watches)
