Material description
Material 1.4547 (Alloy 254SMO) is an austenitic, rust-resistant chromium-nickel-molybdenum stainless steel. Thanks to the increased molybdenum content and the addition of nitrogen, 1.4547 has good mechanical properties and an extremely good resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion and surface corrosion.
In its solution annealed state, the material is not magnetic. Low magnetisation can occur in the case of cold-formed bars or wires due to the formation of deformation-induced martensite.
An overview of the properties of 1.4547:
- Resistant to seawater
- Extremely good resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion and surface corrosion
- Elevated resistance to sulphuric and phosphoric acid contaminated with chlorides
Applications
- Offshore technology and shipbuilding
- Chemical industry
- Flue gas desulphurisation
- Pulp/paper industry
- Seawater desalination plants
- Water treatment plants
